Migrating from Portfolio Performance to Anelior Without Losing Your History
XML export, a 3-step import, cost basis/TTWROR/IRR recalculated automatically: the full guide to migrating without re-typing your history.
Published on August 21, 2026
You've tracked your portfolio in Portfolio Performance for years. Hundreds of transactions, a full dividend history, carefully computed cost basis. The idea of re-typing all of it somewhere else is often enough on its own to kill the idea of switching tools, even once the current tool starts showing its limits. Good news: you don't have to. Here's how to migrate without losing a single line.
What you need before you start
Portfolio Performance exports your full history as XML from its File > Export menu. Choose the "XML with id attributes" export option (available since PP 0.70.3): that specific format, and only that one, is what Anelior can read. Any other export format (CSV, XML without the id attributes) won't be accepted.
The resulting file contains your accounts, securities and transactions exactly as PP knows them: no manual selection needed before exporting.
The import steps
- In Anelior, from the dashboard, click "+ Add account", then "Import from Portfolio Performance".
- Drop the
.xmlfile you exported in the previous step. - A summary screen appears before anything is written: number of accounts, securities and transactions detected. Nothing is saved at this point.
- If any rows couldn't be imported (rare, but possible on edge cases in your history), they're listed individually with the exact reason, so you know precisely what will be missing before you confirm.
- You confirm, and your accounts, securities and transactions are created in one go.
There's no manual mapping step on your side: securities are matched automatically (by ISIN first, then by ticker and currency as a fallback), and linked to ones Anelior already knows rather than duplicated.
What gets recalculated automatically after import
Once the import is confirmed, Anelior doesn't just show a balance: cost basis, TTWROR and IRR are recalculated from the full imported transaction history, exactly as if they had always been tracked in Anelior. No "resetting" your performance to zero on migration day.
| What the import does | What it doesn't do | |
|---|---|---|
| Before confirming | Shows a summary (accounts/securities/transactions) and the list of what won't be imported | Writes nothing to your account |
| Securities | Matches automatically by ISIN, then ticker+currency | Doesn't duplicate a security it already knows |
| History | Recalculates cost basis/TTWROR/IRR over the full imported history | Doesn't start from a bare opening balance |
| Skipped rows | Listed individually with the reason | Never silently dropped |
Anelior imports your Portfolio Performance history in minutes
The XML file exported from PP contains everything Anelior needs to faithfully rebuild your history: accounts, securities, transactions, and the performance metrics that go with them. From the dashboard, "+ Add account" then "Import from Portfolio Performance" is all it takes to get started.
These numbers, calculated automatically.
Anelior shows them per account and per security, updated with every transaction.
